A very warm welcome to the website of our Committee on Professional Development of Teachers and Principals (COTAP).

COTAP is an advisory body which advises the Government on policies, practices and measures relating to the professional development of the teaching profession at different stages of professional growth.

We trust that a professional teaching force can effectively facilitate school development and provide quality education to our students. We earnestly look forward to working closely with all our stakeholders to contribute to this meaningful cause.

This website provides the latest information about the work of COTAP. You will also be able to find information on various teachers' professional development activities, as well as other related documents and useful links. We welcome your views and suggestions on COTAP's work or the content of this website. We would much appreciate it if these could be sent to the COTAP Secretariat for our continuous improvement.



T-EXCEL

T-excel@hk

To take forward COTAP's vision, mission, objectives and strategies, COTAP has launched an overarching project, T-excel@hk, which symbolises a teaching profession of excellence in Hong Kong with "T" standing for the teaching profession as a whole, including both teachers and school leaders. Eight areas of focus are being planned under T-excel@hk, and they will be prioritised and implemented in phases.

"Latest Development of STEM Education in Hong Kong" - Presentation at the Pre-trip Sharing of "Study Tour to Guangxi for Principals, Assistant Principals, Deputy Heads and Teachers of Government Schools"

At the pre-trip sharing of "Study Tour to Guangxi for Principals, Assistant Principals, Deputy Heads and Teachers of Government Schools" held on 11 April 2019, Mr YUNG Po-shu, Benjamin, Principal Assistant Secretary (Professional Development & Training) of the Education Bureau delivered a presentation on "Latest Development of STEM Education in Hong Kong". It aimed at enriching the knowledge of the participating school heads and teachers on STEM Education so as to enhance their professional exchange and sharing with outstanding education professionals in Mainland China. The foci of the presentation include:

  1. Why should STEM Education be promoted in Hong Kong; and
  2. How to promote STEM Education in Hong Kong

Professional Development Talk: Teaching Strategies for Instructional Quality: Insights from OECD Studies

On 15 September 2018, the Education Bureau (EDB) conducted a professional development talk for Hong Kong education sector. The EDB had the great honour to have invited Mr Andreas Schleicher to share his professional views and experiences in linking student survey and teacher survey in OECD Studies for revealing the potential of having a comprehensive dataset for education sector.

About Andreas Schleicher

Mr. Schleicher is the Director for Education and Skills and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the OECD in Paris. As a key member of the OECD Senior Management team, Mr. Schleicher supervises the PISA, the OECD Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS), and the development and analysis of benchmarks on the performance of education systems (INES).

International Conference 2018: "Principals' Professional Leadership a Global Perspective"

International Conference 2018

The "International Conference 2018" co-organised by the Committee on Professional Development of Teachers and Principals and the Hong Kong Principals' Institute was held on 27 November 2018 at Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre. We had the honour to have four distinguished academia and professional practitioners from Australia, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong to speak on the theme of principal professional leadership and took part in a discussion forum with the participants. Around 200 principals and educational professionals from Universities, secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens joined the conference.
